Johnson sacks NigComSat MD during SMW Lagos

Omobola Johnson, Nigeria’s communication technology minister, has directed the managing director of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat) Limited, Engr Timasaniyu Ahmed-Rufai, to go on indefinite leave to pave the way for an investigation into the finances of the company.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Sonny Aragba-Akpore, head of corporate communications at NigComSat, which revealed the minister’s directive had been approved by the board of directors of NigComSat.

Rufai is billed to speak today at the ongoing Social Media Week (SMW) Lagos on science and technology, but organiser Obi Osaka said no action had yet been taken on the scheduled event, expected to take place at 3pm WAT.

“In fact I’m just hearing about it for the first time from you. We will see how things go. Maybe NigComSat would send another person to speak at the session, maybe one of their directors. I’ve been busy at the session with the honorable minister so I can’t give you an official position on the development,” he told HumanIPO last night.
