Hurry! Facebook turns 10

Tuesday, February 4 marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the world's biggest social media platform Facebook (FB).

Initially introduced on February 4, 2004 as, Mark Zuckerberg (less than 20 year old then) developed the site along with three other Harvard students as something of a digital interactive yearbook for Harvard students.

In a statement released on the company's Facebook page, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg today, said he hopes the next 10 years will allow the company to expand its capabilities. He stated that he wants Facebook to help people solve bigger and more important problems than before.

The company has also announced no public plans for a celebration, but the occasion has encouraged many observers to reflect on the meteoric rise of the site and its influence on other social networking services such as Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.

In line with the celebration, the social media firm launched a new tool called A Look Back. The social network's hundreds of millions users can now create a personalised movie or photo collection featuring their biggest moments shared on the service. The videos are potent reminders that the social media site has become part of our daily lives.
