Netflix Withdraws Support for Sony PlayStation 3

..Ends streaming access on millions of legacy devices

Netflix has ended support for Sony’s PlayStation 3 from today, bringing its streaming service to a close on more than 87 million consoles worldwide.

Users of the long-running games console have been notified that the Netflix app will no longer function from 2 March 2026. The on-screen message reads, "Unfortunately, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after March 2, 2026. Visit netflix.com/compatibledevices to see a list of supported devices.”

First released in November 2006, the PlayStation 3 became one of the earliest mainstream platforms to combine gaming and streaming, with more than 87 million units sold globally.

The decision has prompted strong reactions online, with some describing the move as the “end of an era”. One user wrote, X: “End of an era. PS3 really carried streaming and gaming before it was cool. Respect to the OG.” Another posted, "Netflix survived 3 console generations and said I’m tired, boss.'"

On Reddit, users reflected on how the console had served as a key streaming device for years. One comment read, "Netflix on PS3 was the only way I could still share Netflix with my dad even though we live in different countries. No ads and no location service made the PS3 the perfect way to watch Netflix.”

Industry reports suggest that some older smart televisions, particularly those over 10 years old, will also lose access to Netflix, along with certain set-top boxes, including BT TV Box (Z4) and BT TV Recordable Box (G4).

Netflix says viewers can continue watching on supported devices such as newer smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, streaming players, computers, and modern game consoles connected to the internet.

For many long-time PlayStation 3 users, however, the change marks the close of a familiar chapter in home entertainment.
