Meta has announced the winners of the Meta Llama Impact Accelerator 2025, celebrating some of Sub-Saharan Africa’s most promising founders leveraging Llama - Meta’s large language model - to tackle real-world challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, public safety, and public services.
The six-week accelerator culminated in a series of Demo Day events held across Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya, and South Africa, where entrepreneurs presented their AI-powered innovations. National winners received a total of $50,000 in seed funding, with top teams from each country now set to pitch at the AI Summit 2025 in Dubai on 3–4 November for a chance to win up to $100,000 in regional funding.
In Nigeria, MARMAR took first place with a $25,000 prize for its AI-native electronic medical record and mobile platform designed to eliminate medication errors in hospitals and homes. Purple Labs secured second place with $15,000 for developing MediSync, an AI-powered diagnostic tool aimed at transforming patient care. DAWN AI Study came third with $10,000 for its AI-driven approach to inclusive learning through early assessment and emotional-cognitive support.
From Senegal, Kajou emerged as the winner with $25,000 for its offline AI-powered e-learning platform, kSANTÉ, supporting community health workers. SamaCoach claimed second place with $15,000 for its AI-driven fitness and wellness programmes promoting public health, while LOOKA Research earned $10,000 for its AI-based market intelligence platform designed to bridge Africa’s data gap.
In South Africa, eFama secured the top spot and $25,000 for its AI-powered marketplace connecting farmers and buyers through a fair-pricing engine. CatalyzU received $15,000 for using AI to align workforce skills with business needs, while Four Minute Medicine won $10,000 for using microlearning and AI simulations to reduce medical errors in healthcare training.
Kenya’s first-place winner, DPE, earned $25,000 for transforming public health communication with localized, AI-driven messaging. Esheria Ventures took second place with $15,000 for developing Kenya’s first multilingual “digital paralegal,” and Neural Labs Africa claimed third with $10,000 for its AI-powered radiology and teleradiology tools that help close diagnostic gaps.
Beyond the Demo Days, all participating startups will receive six months of post-programme support, including business advisory services, technical assistance, and ecosystem exposure to help scale their impact.
“The Meta Llama Impact Accelerator 2025 has been instrumental in fostering a new wave of AI innovation across Sub-Saharan Africa, in close collaboration with national ministries and local partners,” said Balkissa Ide Siddo, Meta’s Director for Public Policy across Sub-Saharan Africa. “We are incredibly proud of the groundbreaking solutions developed by these startups, which demonstrate the immense potential of AI to address critical challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, public services, and public safety within their communities and beyond.”
The accelerator received over 1,400 applications from across the region, with 40 startups selected from Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya, and South Africa. Participants took part in tailored business sessions to refine go-to-market strategies and strengthen scalability, technical workshops with Meta engineers, and mentorship from AI specialists, investors, and business coaches.
Following the accelerator, startups will continue to benefit from specialised workshops, early access to Meta tools and resources, and investor connections designed to help them refine and scale their AI solutions. The Meta Llama Impact Accelerator 2025 highlights how collaboration and innovation can drive an inclusive AI ecosystem that reflects local realities while propelling meaningful progress across Africa.
