Akida Hills to Turn Abuja’s Jabi Lake Waterfront into Major Tourism and Leisure Destination by 2026

Abuja is set to gain a landmark waterfront attraction as Akida Hills begins the development of a major leisure and tourism destination at Jabi Lake, with a first-of-its-kind dancing musical fountain in West Africa expected to become its centrepiece.

The ambitious project, scheduled to launch in December 2026, is designed to transform one of the capital city's most recognisable locations into a year-round hub for tourism, recreation and entertainment.

The development forms part of broader efforts to reposition the Jabi Lake waterfront as a premier lifestyle and tourism destination. Akida Hills, a Nigerian mixed-use real estate and destination development company, has secured a 3.36-hectare site within the approximately 14-hectare waterfront district to deliver a phased development comprising leisure, entertainment and public recreational experiences.

Speaking on the agreement, Kayode Bamisile, Founder, Akida Hills, said “Jabi Lake represents one of the most significant opportunities to create a world-class waterfront destination in Africa. Through this development, we aim to deliver experiences that attract residents, visitors, and tourists year-round while contributing to economic growth, job creation, and Nigeria’s tourism appeal. Our vision is to establish Jabi as a defining waterfront destination for the continent – one that demonstrates the transformative power of destination-led development and reimagines how people experience a city.”

The first phase of the project, due for completion in December 2026, will introduce several signature attractions, including dining and leisure facilities, water-based activities, structured weekly programmes and a seasonal lights festival.

At the heart of the experience will be the dancing musical fountain, designed as a major evening attraction featuring choreographed water displays synchronised with lighting and music.

Additional attractions and amenities will be rolled out in subsequent phases as the destination expands.

Upon completion, the development is expected to become a significant centre for tourism, entertainment and community engagement, further strengthening Abuja’s appeal as a leading leisure and lifestyle destination in Nigeria.

Construction and implementation will take place in phases, with further announcements on attractions, events programming and commercial partnerships expected ahead of the official launch in December 2026.

Akida Hills is an Abuja-based real estate and mixed-use developer focused on long-term place-making. The company has built a growing portfolio across residential, hospitality and lifestyle developments and is increasingly focused on creating destinations that integrate leisure, culture and community experiences.

Driven by a commitment to quality, sustainability and long-term value, Akida Hills aims to develop spaces that reshape how people live, interact and connect.
