Mercedes-AMG’s First Electric Super Saloon Poised to Take on Porsche Taycan

Mercedes-AMG is preparing to unleash its first all-electric flagship, and for once, there’s no V8 soundtrack in sight. Instead, the brand’s new high-performance four-door saloon will rely entirely on electric power.

Teased for the first time on social media, the shadowy images hint at a dramatic, low-slung EV set to rival the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi E-Tron GT RS Performance. Mercedes-AMG also teased a potential full reveal in June 2025.

Despite ditching internal combustion, the car retains classic AMG proportions with a long, pronounced bonnet, a sharply raked windscreen, and a sleek, coupe-inspired profile. A bold shoulder line at the rear further amplifies its sporty character. Unlike the current petrol-powered AMG GT 4-Door 63 S, there’s no visible rear spoiler — though an active aero system could appear at launch.

While this is our first look at the production-ready version, prototypes have been spotted testing for months. The design heavily draws from the 2022 AMG Vision Concept, which previewed many of the car’s styling cues.

Previous spy shots revealed frameless doors, oversized wheels, and a more sculpted silhouette compared to earlier EQ models like the EQS and EQE. AMG’s new EV will also feature a distinct bonnet and generous overhangs, giving it a more sophisticated stance.

Both front and rear sections remain heavily camouflaged, but the low-set bonnet and Kamm-style rear end are clear departures from Mercedes’ traditional, rounded designs seen since the early 2000s.

Underpinning the new model is an entirely new, bespoke platform called AMG.EA. This cutting-edge architecture will incorporate axial flux motors — lighter and more powerful than the conventional radial motors found in most EVs — enabling the car’s striking proportions and likely its exceptional performance. Expect massive 21-inch wheels and advanced chassis technology to complement the sleek looks.

Drawing from the AMG Vision Concept, we anticipate vertical strakes on the nose and a fresh three-pointed star motif integrated into the headlights.
