Canon Central and North Africa is supporting the next wave of African filmmaking as its cinema cameras and lenses power the production of the upcoming Nollywood music drama, Evi.
An exclusive African premiere of the film is scheduled for 22 March 2026 in Lagos, bringing together filmmakers, industry stakeholders and media ahead of its nationwide cinema release on 27 March 2026.
As African films continue to gain global recognition, filmmakers are increasingly adopting advanced imaging technology to deliver high-quality visuals that resonate with international audiences.
Evi was shot using the Canon C400 cinema camera alongside professional lenses, delivering vivid colour and sharp image clarity. The technology is designed to capture the richness of African skin tones while meeting the technical standards expected in global film production. The project highlights how modern cinema tools are enabling African storytellers to produce content that competes on the world stage.

Directed by Uyoyou Adia and produced by Judith Audu, with Barnabas Emordi as cinematographer, Evi is a music-driven drama exploring themes of identity, ambition, second chances and resilience. The film features a strong cast including Osas Okonyon, Uzor Arukwe, Omowunmi Dada, Ibrahim Suleiman, Femi Branch, Ariyiike Dimples Owolagba, VJ Adams and singer Waje.
Canon’s imaging technology played a central role in capturing the film’s visual depth and emotional tone, supporting the high production standards expected of contemporary cinema.
Following its premiere in Lagos, Evi will open in cinemas across Nigeria on 27 March 2026, marking another milestone for Nollywood as it continues to expand its global footprint.
