Munich to Host 2028 UEFA Champions League Final as Wembley and Camp Nou Battle for 2029

Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena has been confirmed as the host venue for the 2028 UEFA Champions League Final, while London’s Wembley Stadium and Barcelona’s newly renovated Camp Nou are set to go head-to-head for the 2029 showpiece event.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Friday (31 October 2025) the list of member associations that have expressed interest in hosting its major club finals, effectively ruling out the long-rumoured prospect of a Champions League final in New York until at least 2030.

“The declarations of interest are not binding, and the final proposals must be delivered with the bid dossiers by June 10,” UEFA said in a statement.

Munich was the sole bidder for the 2028 final, marking a return to familiar territory after hosting last season’s final. Wembley, which staged the 2024 final, is now vying with Barcelona’s Camp Nou which last hosted the event in 1999, when Manchester United famously overturned Bayern Munich with two stoppage-time goals for the 2029 slot.

Once its long-delayed renovation is complete, the Camp Nou is expected to boast a capacity of 105,000, making it the largest stadium in Europe.

UEFA’s Executive Committee is scheduled to confirm the hosts for all 2028 and 2029 club competition finals next September.

This season’s Champions League Final will be held at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, featuring a new early evening kickoff time for European audiences. The 2027 edition has already been awarded to Atlético Madrid’s stadium.

Europa League Final Bids

Barcelona and Atlético Madrid both founding members of the failed 2021 Super League project, join Juventus in bidding to host future European finals.

Juventus’ 41,000-seat stadium in Turin has been proposed by the Italian Football Federation for either the Europa League or the third-tier Conference League final in 2028 or 2029. The venue last hosted the Europa League final in 2014, when Juventus was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Romania’s National Arena in Bucharest is also in contention, as is France’s football federation, which is yet to decide between Paris’ Parc des Princes and Lyon’s Groupama Stadium.

Two yet-to-be-completed venues have also entered the race: Serbia’s new national arena in Belgrade (for 2028) and Turkey’s Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadium (for 2029).

Conference League Final Contenders

The Puskás Aréna is also a candidate to host the UEFA Europa Conference League final in either 2028 or 2029, which would make it the largest venue yet for Europe’s third-tier competition. The tournament, launched in 2021, saw attendances of fewer than 20,000 in its first two finals in Tirana and Prague.

Other bids for the Conference League finals include Lille’s home ground in France, Arena Gdańsk in Poland, and Kazakhstan which has yet to choose between Astana and Kairat Almaty’s home stadium. Finland’s Helsinki Olympic Stadium has been proposed for the 2029 final.

Women’s Champions League Final Bids

Lyon’s Groupama Stadium, the venue of the 2019 Women’s World Cup final is also bidding to host the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in either 2028 or 2029. St. Jakob-Park in Basel, which hosted the Women’s European Championship final earlier this year, is another contender.

For 2028, the shortlisted venues include Athletic Bilbao’s San Mamés and Galatasaray’s Rams Park in Istanbul. The 2029 candidates feature Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, the latter having hosted the men’s Champions League final in 2017.
