Emirates marked a defining moment in UAE aviation history as its new A350 made its first flypast appearance during the opening of the 2025 Dubai Airshow. The aircraft was joined in formation by the Emirates Boeing 777 and the flagship A380, presenting the airline’s full commercial line-up together in flight for the first time since the A350 joined the fleet in November 2024.
The flypast formed part of a breathtaking 60-aircraft aerial display showcasing the UAE’s aviation strength. Emirates led the commercial contingent, followed by other UAE carriers, a series of military aircraft, and helicopter units.
In a precisely choreographed sequence, the Emirates A380 flew at 500ft, the Boeing 777 at 700ft, and the A350 at 900ft. The formation swept across Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), drawing admiration from thousands of spectators who gathered for what has become one of the Dubai Airshow’s most anticipated opening events.
Underscoring the UAE’s aviation expertise, the Emirates formation was planned and flown entirely by an Emirati team. Captain Mubarak Al Mheiri piloted the A380 at the head of the formation, with Captain Ali Almarzooqi and Captain Rashed Murshed commanding the Boeing 777 and A350 respectively. Captain Khalid Akram, Deputy Chief Pilot Boeing, served on the Flight Control Committee overseeing the commercial showcase.
The meticulous preparations required extensive cooperation across the sector, involving Emirates’ operational teams, UAE airlines, the UAE Ministry of Defence, the UAE Military, and Air Traffic Controllers, alongside the Dubai Airshow Flying Control Committee and both aviation regulators (DCAA and GCAA). Planning covered every element from fluctuating air traffic patterns and overflight zones to weather and wind conditions ensuring the flypast took place with seamless precision.
