Why Ford Recalled More Than 115,000 Mustangs in North America

Ford has recalled over 115,000 Mustang sports cars across North America after discovering a safety issue linked to their exterior lighting.

The recall applies to 2024 and 2025 model-year Mustangs. The carmaker explained that water may have entered the body control module in some vehicles, preventing the rear number plate lights, side marker lamps, and tail lamps from illuminating properly. 

The defect could make affected Mustangs less visible on the road, heightening the risk of collisions.

To address the fault, Ford dealers will seal the body seams to stop water intrusion and inspect the body control module for corrosion. If necessary, the unit will be replaced at no cost to owners.

Ford confirmed that interim letters will be sent to vehicle owners from 1 September to alert them to the issue. 

A follow-up letter with full repair details will be issued when a permanent solution is ready, expected in the first quarter of 2026.
