BYD Opens 100th UK Dealership in Just Two Years as Chinese Carmakers Surge in Europe

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has reached a major milestone in the UK with the opening of its 100th franchised sales site, less than two and a half years after its first dealership launched in April 2023.

The company’s rapid expansion has made it the UK’s fastest-growing automotive brand. In 2024 alone, BYD sold more than 8,700 cars in the country, representing a 658% year-on-year increase.

Looking ahead, BYD has also confirmed plans to begin the UK rollout of its new megawatt EV chargers in 2026. Known as Flash Chargers, the technology can add 250 miles of range in just five minutes. The one megawatt charging speed is around three times faster than the quickest systems currently available for passenger cars.

Steve Beattie, sales and network director at BYD, said: “I’m hugely proud to see us reach this remarkable milestone for BYD in the UK in such a short space of time, as we open more stores to offer even more support to both our current and new customers. It’s testament to the appeal of our cars and their cutting-edge levels of technology… It’s also proof of the strength of the relationships with our retailer partners and their hard work and dedication in driving the brand forwards, ensuring that our BYD cars are seen up and down the country in ever increasing numbers.”

BYD’s success comes as new figures show Chinese carmakers are rapidly gaining market share in Europe. In August, registrations of Chinese brands surpassed 43,500 units — a 121% year-on-year increase. The total outpaced sales by established European players including Audi and Renault.
