adidas has confirmed the release of the highly anticipated VIRGINIA Adistar Jellyfish trainers by Pharrell Williams in an orange colourway, arriving on 23 August. Released under VIRGINIA – Pharrell’s new creative identity, community platform and brand – the design draws inspiration from his home state of Virginia while aiming for global resonance.
The VIRGINIA Adistar Jellyfish reimagines the classic adidas Adistar, blending performance heritage with a bold sculptural design for a lifestyle-forward expression. Combining art, technology and playfulness, the sneaker reflects Pharrell’s distinctive aesthetic while celebrating the iconic adidas silhouette. Designed to exist between land and sea, utility and imagination, the trainer represents more than just footwear.
Key features include an exaggerated midsole inspired by the fluid gills of a jellyfish, a layered mesh upper, and exoskeletal details that create dynamic movement and futuristic depth. A glow-in-the-dark element adds an ethereal finish. The sneaker pays tribute to marine life, with the midsole echoing the jellyfish’s flowing form and the logo mirroring its unique shape. Custom “Jellyfish” and understated “VIRGINIA” branding on the insole and tongue root the concept firmly in Pharrell’s creative vision.
Pharrell and adidas introduce the VIRGINIA Adistar Jellyfish through a campaign centred on divers captivated by the elegance of jellyfish, set within a fictional coral reef. By crafting an imagined underwater world, the campaign highlights the beauty and resilience of jellyfish without disturbing real marine ecosystems. Drawing inspiration from vintage diving imagery and old nature films, the campaign honours the life and wonder beneath the ocean’s surface.
