...Rewards Exceptional Teachers in Commemoration of 2017 World Teachers’ Day
Leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has announced plans to organize a specialized training programme for primary school teachers across different geo-political zones in commemoration of the 2017 World Teachers’ Day.
The training programme, which will happen in six different locations, is specifically designed to help primary school teachers to become more productive and effective as well as improve the quality of education delivery at the primary level.
The capacity building workshop will also honour exceptional Nigerian teachers across primary schools as part of celebrations of this year’s World Teachers’ Day.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, said the company is totally committed to improving the quality of education at the primary level and also focused on creating access and educational opportunities for underprivileged children.
According to him, the specialized training programme aligns with Airtel’s overall Corporate Social Responsibility of touching lives, making a difference and driving positive change across communities where it operates.
“Teachers are very important and crucial to the success of any nation. Airtel Nigeria recognizes the important role teachers play in building a great society and we use the occasion of the 2017 World Teachers’ Day to honour, train and reward teachers across the country.
“It is our hope that this initiative will empower Nigerian teachers to become more effective in the discharge of their duties,” said Ogunsanya.
As part of the workshop, Airtel will also initiate an award’s platform to reward exceptional and hardworking teachers across its six adopted schools.
To deliver the targeted training, Airtel Nigeria has partnered with Reading for leading, an educational based, non-governmental organization that is focused on improving the quality of education through mentoring, training and delivery of other learning related projects.
The workshop, which will kick off on Thursday, 5th October through Tuesday, 17th October, 2017, will train over 152 teachers on how to engage pupils through interactive sessions as well as the use of audio visual aids in teaching children.
The teachers training will take place across the six adopted schools namely: Oremeji Primary School II, Ajegunle, Lagos; St. John’s Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun; Community Primary School, Amumara, Imo; Iyeru Okin Primary School, Ilara-Mokin, Kwara , Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, Cross River State and the newly commissioned Yahaya Hamza Primary School, Zaria, Kaduna.
Airtel’s Adopt-a-School programme is a robust initiative that offers underprivileged children access to quality education in conducive environment, also providing them with all the materials for learning and study. As part of the programme, Airtel also trains teachers of its adopted schools to ensure that high teaching quality is always maintained.
