Barcelona signs world record $112m per year contract with Nike

Spanish Liga football club Barcelona has extended a partnership with sportswear company Nike in a deal reportedly worth a world record total of €155m ($174m) per season.

The Catalan giants have been partnered with the American sports apparel giant since 1998 and are set to receive a major financial boost with the latest commercial deal.

The Camp Nou team’s current arrangement with Nike is said to earn it $37 million a year. It was set to run until the summer of 2018.

Commenting on the deal, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said: “We are excited by this new agreement and are confident we will be able to celebrate continued sporting successes together.” Barcelona and Nike signed their first partnership back in 1998.

Earlier this month Nike sealed a new agreement with English Premier League club Chelsea that will be worth £60m (€77m/$86m) per season. Barcelona’s new deal with Nike trumps Premier League club Manchester United’s £75m-per-year deal with Adidas.

FC Barcelona and Nike signed their first partnership agreement back in 1998 and have experienced two decades of extraordinary football together, with the club winning 4 Champions Leagues, 10 Ligas, 4 editions of the Copa del Rey and 3 Club World Cups, among others.
