Pepsi Enters Smartphone Market in China With P1

No longer content to sell beverages, Pepsi is now extending its business to technology with the introduction of Pepsi-branded smartphone into China market.

Dubbed the Pepsi P1, the 5.5-inch Smartphone will run Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The P1 phone will have a fingerprint reader, 2 GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and a 5.5-inch display. The handset will reportedly feature 1.7GHz MT6592 SoC, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It will boast 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras. The 1080p device will offer a 3,000mAh battery and will, reportedly, hit the market for $205 (or 1,299 Chinese Yuan).

“Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories,” a company spokesman told media. “Pepsi has always moved at the speed of culture, and today technology is a key cultural pillar at the heart of consumer interaction.

“Pepsi has no plans to get into the mobile phone manufacturing business, but we are committed to engaging with consumers in innovative ways to grow our brand,” he added.
