Bono Becomes World’s Richest pop Star After Facebook Investment Pays Off

Despite U2's flagging critical and commercial successes in past years, Bono has topped up his bank balance with shares in Facebook. The 2.3 per cent stake the Pop Star bought for £56 million in 2009 is now worth £940 million.

The shares were bought via the investment group that he co-founded, Elevation Partners, after Facebook went public.

Today that share is worth almost a billion pounds, according to reports. Before then, Bono had a net worth of about £500 million, meaning this single 6 year investment has earned him more than his whole 39 year music career.

With this recent development, Bono overtakes Beatles legend, Sir Paul McCartney as the world’s richest pop star. Paul McCartney is worth £730 million, while Madonna comes in next with £520 million.
