Football Star Unveils His Statue At Personal Museum

Portugal and Real Madrid football star, Cristiano Ronaldo has unveiled a 2.4-metre- tall statue of himself in his home town of Funchal on Madeira.

The World Player of the Year travelled to the Portuguese island from Morocco after helping the La Liga side claim the Club World Cup, their fourth trophy of 2014, with a 2-0 win over Argentine side San Lorenzo on Saturday evening.

The bronze effigy reportedly weighing in at around 800 kilograms, was sculpted to add to the extensive collection of memorabilia at the Portuguese forward’s personal museum.

The CR7 Museum already boasts golden boots, signed balls and various medals collected by the Portugal captain over the course of his career, while there are also many photographs from the player’s career.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a 2014 to remember, having helped Madrid lift the European Champions League, European Super Cup and Spanish Copa del Rey, as well as the Club World Cup.

Ronaldo has scored 34 goals in 27 games for club and country this season. He is favorite to land the 2014 Ballon d'Or ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, with the result being announced on January 12, 2015.

Ronaldo also received the Cordao Autonomico during the trip to his native Madeira. The medal of honour is the highest distinction awarded by the local government.
