Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Globe Soccer Honour, Targets Ballon d'Or Triumph

Cristiano Ronaldo added to the numbers of his personal trophy cabinet on Monday as he won the best player of the year at the Globe Soccer awards in Dubai.

Ronaldo has enjoyed arguably the greatest year of his career, breaking the record for the number of goals in a single Champions League season as he led Real Madrid to their 10th European title, while maintaining his better than a goal-per-game ratio across five prolific years in Spain.

Ronaldo is nominated alongside Manuel Neuer and Lionel Messi for the Ballon d'Or—which will be awarded in Zurich on Jan. 12, 2015—after a year which included a second Champions League victory for the 29-year-old.

Ronaldo will look to finish 2014 on a high on today (Tuesday) when Real take on AC Milan in a friendly in Dubai before the La Liga season resumes after its winter break in the new year.
