Red House Wins Builders International School Sports Competition

The Red (Mohammed) House has emerged the winner of the 8th inter-house sports competition of Builders International School which was held on Saturday, February 22, at the Lagos State University (LASU) Museum, Agege.

The house won the trophy with 190 points while the Green (Badaki) House with 175 points took the second position, the Blue (Afelogun) House and Yellow (Lawrence) Housewhich had 154 and 146 points made third and fourth positions respectively.

According to the proprietress of the school, Mrs. Modupe Lawrence, the aim of the event is to trains its students not only in academics but also boost their physical ability.

Her words: “Children love sports and we have always encouraged them. It is part of education and you can’t take it out. Fun and academics make the students more brilliant. Children need to exercise their body. Every year we host inter-house sports. We also have weekly extra-curricular activities in school for students,to build them both academically and physically”.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Akin Akinronbi, in its own remark, said it is important for students to come together at least one in a year to engaging in sporting activities in order to boost their morale. “A very important part of education, particularly at the primary level is the integration of physical activities in the programme. The essence of competition is not just in winning, but principally in participating. The children are very happy. Sporting activities are part of what would boost the morale of the students in class”, he said.

Mr. Akinronbi appealed to the government, private organizations and other stakeholders in the education sector to invest more in physical education, to facilitate not just a healthy society but a health-conscious society. “Supporting children from the primary level will help to groom more talents that could even present the country in both local and international sporting competitions. So, I hope this kind of event is sustained by the school and further encouraged at both secondary and tertiary level of education” he added.

The Chairmanof the School’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Mr. IdowuSegunAfelogun who spoke on behalf of the parents, stated that parents choose to support the school in making the sporting event a reality because they all know the importance of sports to their children. He said: “We, parents, are passionate about sports and that’s why we chose to support the school and our children to exhibit their talents”.

The event was sponsored by Bobo Food and Beverages Limited and the makers of Peak Milk, FrieslandCampina.
