Kunle Olokesusi launches maiden gospel album, My Time

The ancient city of Ibadan was agog on Sunday as Kunle Olokesusi, aka, Gaslak unveiled his maiden gospel album, My Time, to signify the turning point in his music career.

The Ise Ekiti born Electrical and Electronics graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, had explained that the new album marked  his entrance into the league of Nigerian gospel singers, after his exploits as a HipHop musician for  many years.

‘The decision to go gospel was informed by the need to positively influence minds for God. And one thing is that you don’t have to be a pastor before preaching the message and drawing people to God, and this is exactly what I intend to do with my music,’ he said.

Interestingly one of the ways  the former Hip Hop singer intends to carve a niche for himself is by making his own brand of gospel music unique.
‘I want to make it afro to make it very easy to bond with. One thing is that if you are creative, gospel music can be done in any genre. The most important t hing is getting it to minister to souls,’ he stated.

As a way of preparing himself for the task ahead, he had gone to a music school and studied sax, hence his decision to make the music afro.

The son of the incumbent Registrar of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN)  is however ready to take on the world with his brand of music. He wants to see his music influencing souls around the globe in the next few years.

Perhaps an indication that this dream may not be far from being realised were the testimonies of Mrs Abosede Adedibu, one of the wives of the late strongman of Ibadan politics, Lamidi Adedibu.
