Apple Becomes ‘World’s Most Valuable Brand’, Knocks Coca-Cola From its Spot

Apple has been announced by Interbrand as the world’s most valuable brand, bringing the curtain down on Coca-Cola’s 13-year reign at the top.

The highly-regarded Best Global Brand 2013 charts, released today by the image consultancy firm Interbrand, saw the long-term reigning champion soft drinks company actually slipping down to third, with a huge surge in value seeing Google take second place.

Maltina Dance All Grand Finale holds on Saturday

Ibrahim family doing their thing
The stage is now set for the epic dance battle that will showcase Nigeria’s best dancing families as the curtains fall on the Maltina Dance All (MDA) family reality television show season seven. The winning dance family will drive home a brand new car in addition to a cash prize of N6 million while the first and second runners up will take home N1million and N500, 000 respectively.

The MDA is sponsored by Maltina, a premium non-alcoholic malt brand from the stable of Nigerian Breweries Plc and the nation’s number one malt drink. After a rigorous and intensive competition process spanning more than a month, five families; the Ebute, Briggs, Ibrahim, Enweribe and Ikumoinein  families qualified for the grand finale taking place live at Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday September 21, 2013.

The judges were impressed with the hard work and effort each family made by fine tuning their various dance routines to prove that they wanted to retain their stay in the Academy. However, one family had to be evicted and after much deliberation the Asiyefia family was asked to leave.
During the third and final eviction showdown, the Ekado and Ebenezer families were evicted in an emotion laden episode which witnessed some of the best and determined dances the show has ever seen. But the judges had to make the decision because there are only five slots for the grand finale. As it stands, the Ebute, Briggs, Ibrahim, Enweribe and Ikumoinein families would battle for the crown of Nigeria’s number one dance family today.

Speaking on the show, Mrs Ngozi Nkwoji, Senior Brand Manager, Maltina stated that building any brand is a very long journey, “We are glad with where we are with Maltina today. We are very excited about the seventh season of MDA, seven years is a long time for a show to still be relevant and we’re very glad Maltina through MDA continues to bring the brand experience of sharing happiness and fun to the consumer.
We put a lot of work into it and every year there is something bigger and better. What we are doing with Maltina Dance All is to ‘share happiness’ and to also create more emotional connection with consumers because families and dance are two winning components in the Nigerian environment. Maltina is continuously nourishing millions of Nigerians. It’s still the most fortified malt drink in the market. It’s also the biggest malt brand in the market. For this year 2013, we already have MDA seven ‘The Evolution’; we also shared happiness this year at the Lagos Carnival. We have a couple of surprises for our consumers as the year goes by”.

Lionel Messi Launches Election for FIFA FIFPro World XI

Lionel Messi at the launching
Argentina and Barcelona star, Lionel Messi gave the official start sign for election of the FIFA FIFPro World XI of 2013. In the coming months, FIFPro will be giving every professional football player in the world the opportunity to select his favourite eleven players.

Messi cast the first vote on Thursday, thousands of other players will be filling in the voting papers soon.

Every year, FIFPro asks the reigning world footballer of the year to be the first player to cast a vote for the FIFA FIFPro World XI. Messi eagerly took the opportunity of filling in the form. His Barcelona team mates followed suit.

'Of course I consider it an honour to be the first to cast a vote, particularly because it is a very special election,' explained Messi. 'This is the only global award that is one hundred percent based on the votes of the players. Your colleagues know why a footballer is good. That is what makes being elected for the FIFA FIFPro World XI such a significant prize.'

Messi knows what he's talking about. In 2008, the then 21-year-old Messi received the World XI trophy for the first time. Since then, he has been in every successive FIFA FIFPro World XI. The Argentinian, now 26 years old, is the record holder with six selections - just as many of Cristiano Ronaldo.

This is the ninth year in succession that FIFPro organises the World XI election. The world players union sent out almost 50,000 voting papers to 68 countries in Africa, America, Asia and Europe. The players will be able to fill in their form until 1 November.

FIFPro has been running its World XI since 2005. In 2009, the organisation joined forces with FIFA to present the 'FIFA/FIFPro World XI' at the FIFA World Player Gala, now known as the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala.
