Airtel Denies Blackberry Services Shutdown Rumours

Following rumors that the Nigerian government had instructed telecom operators to shut down their Blackberry service in the country, the executive director and chief operating officer at Airtel Networks Limited, Deepak Srivastava, released a statement yesterday, 3 January 2012, to dispel the rumour.

According to a statement signed by Deepak Srivastava, Airtel Nigeria’a Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director: “Airtel Networks Limited wishes to inform all its esteemed customers that it has no plan to shut down its Blackberry Services. Also, we have not received any instruction from any quarter to shut down our Blackberry Services. We will continue to offer service to all our customers “.

“indeed, we remain committed to offering innovative services and also empowering more Nigerians to connect with friends, family members and business associates. We encourage you to take advantage of our new Blackberry packages/offers”.     Airtel Networks Limited wishes to inform all its esteemed customers that it has no plan to shut down its Blackberry Services", the statement read.

The company assured that it is very passionate about realising its vision of being the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians and will continue to enrich Nigerians with world-class telecommunications services including Blackberry services.
